Crew ProfilesCaptain: Chris BeirneChris grew up sailing with his family in the southern United States. As he grew older he developed a passion for yacht racing and spent many years racing in the United States and in Europe. After 22 years working in the yachting industry Chris has spent the past 16 years focusing on motor yachts. Chris had the opportunity to have an integral part of the project from conception to the delivery of M.Y. MADSUMMER in November 2008. MADSUMMER is the third yacht Chris has Captained for the current owners. Chris is very conscientious and accomplished. He has put together a competent team made up of eager professionals ready to create your perfect cruise. First Officer: Wolf SerrerWolf was born and raised in Namibia before finally leaving the African continent in 1996. After completing a year in the military he studied various subjects including Marine Consolation and a diploma in Marketing. He was also a former Diving instructor and 1st Aid CPR instructor. Looking for a change of scenery, Wolf moved to Mozambique and worked on fishing charters where his love for the ocean grew. In search of work on yachts Wolf moved to Fort Lauderdale and found his first job as a deckhand on a large motor yacht based out of Singapore. Since then, he has done more studying and has gained 12 years of experience within the industry working his way up the rankings. Wolf enjoys diving and kite boarding in his spare time and also has a love for nature. Second Officer: Reuben PerkinsReuben is from Maine, USA. After graduating from school Reuben attended Maine Maritime College for 4 yrs where he obtained a 3rd Mates Unlimited and 100 ton Master. After college Reuben worked for four years as a First Mate on container ships. He travelled between Hawaii, Guam, California and China. Wanting to change careers within the maritime industry Reuben recently obtained his 1600, (3000 ITC) ton Masters license and Madsummer is his first position within the luxury yacht industry where he aspires to one day become a Captain. In his spare time Reuben enjoys fishing, surfing, golf and bikram yoga. Third Officer: Arturo (Freddie) CartalaFreddie was born and raised in Cebu City in the Philippines. At age 17 Freddie decided he wanted to work on yachts and so completed his SOLAS qualifications before starting in his first position as a deckhand. With a passion for travel and experiencing different cultures, Freddie has now worked on many prestigious yachts and traveled extensively across the globe. Madsummer is his 2nd New Build and his 2nd yacht with Captain Chris. In his spare time Freddie loves fishing and enjoys watching a good game of basketball. He also has a passion for cooking and originally wanted to become a chef on board super yachts. Bosun: Bongbong CondiaBong was born and raised as an only son in Cebu City in the Philippines. He completed a degree in Maritime Transportation and in 1996, after his apprenticeship, started working as a deck cadet (apprentice mate). Bong gained his first experience on commercial boats and diving expedition boats. In 2000, Bong earned his mates license and has been involved in the yachting industry ever since mainly in the South of France. Bong, has a passion for basketball and dreams of attending a live American game. He also enjoys swimming, film and plays his guitar in his spare time. Deckhand: Sean MoranSean was born in Leicester, England and moved to Fort Lauderdale at age 3. Coming from a family of 'yachties', Sean has been on boats his whole life and so from a young age has wanted to work in this industry. He recently graduated from the University of Florida, with a master's in Science & Finance and has now started out in the yachting industry. Being a water baby Sean loves surfing, skimming, wakeboarding, fishing and free diving in his spare time. He also enjoys skate boarding and snowboarding and plays the guitar. Deckhand: Camilla FoxCam was born and raised in Winchester, England. After graduating from Kings College London University she became a Cardiac High Dependency Nurse. From a very young age Cam developed a passion for sailing after going on various sailing trips with her family primarily in the Caribbean and around France. She has crewed on different types of sail boats in various regattas in the UK including Cowes Week, The Benateu Cup and Round The Island. Cam has her Yachtmaster Offshore and made the decision to move across to motor yachts to gain different experience and further expand her knowledge within the yachting industry. When at home Cam loves to ride her motorbike and has done various road trips around Europe. She also enjoys reading and when she gets the chance, remains loyal to her passion for sailing. Deckhand: Nick PuseyNick was born and raised in Stratford Upon Avon, England. After completing a business and computing course Nick decided to embark on a career within yachting following his passion for boats and after completing his offshore yacht master commercial endorsement worked as a captain on small sail boats around the UK. Nick has worked for the owner of MADSUMMER on his 50, 30 and now his 80 meter yacht. Nick is a miniature aviator and takes great pride in building and flying model aircrafts. In addition to this, he enjoys rugby and rowing. Deck Wild Card: Laura BuitronLaura is a blend of bloods: explosive Spanish and happy Brazilian. Raised on a farm in the mountains and after a degree in Biology she completed her Masters degree in Marine Ecology and worked in a National Marine Park in Brazil. She started to work on yachts in 2003. Laura holds an MCA Chief Mate license and is currently studying a long distance course on "Mega Yachts Procedures". Together with Chris, Julie and Nick she worked on MY Lady in Blue, for the same owner of Madsummer. Laura is our Wild Card on deck as she will be filling up for Reuben, Freddie and Bongbong when they are having time off from the yacht. Her motto is "enjoy life because you only have one". She likes to spend her time off ridding her motorcycle, road bike and mountain bike, mainly if she is camping in a recondite place. If you see a curly head popping up on deck...it's her! Engineers ProfilesChief Engineer: Anthony CooperTony was born in Manchester, England. Coming from a family that has strong seagoing traditions, Tony joined the Merchant Navy as an Engineer Cadet at the tender age of 16. Indeed one of his seafaring ancestors was the 'Cooper' or barrel-maker on HMS Victory at the battle of Trafalgar in 1805, crafting the barrel in which the slain but victorious Admiral Lord Nelson was preserved in rum for the voyage home to a grateful England and a hero's burial. Tony likes to honor his famous relative by imbibing the occasional tot of dark navy rum, aka Nelson's Blood. During the intervening 37 years he has visited places most people only dream of, Hell Fire Corner of Brazil, Lovers Lane Club the Philippines, Seaman's Club Saint Maarten and of course the universally famous 'Scandinavian Bar' one in every port! Hopefully you will hardly notice him during your stay onboard Madsummer, which for Tony means a good cruise. However should any guests like to visit the Engine Room they will be genuinely very welcome. Relief Engineer: Peter MiglioriniPeter is from Brooklyn, New York. After studying marine Engineering and completing his 1yr apprenticeship he worked his way up over the years from a third engineer to chief engineer with experience on oil tankers, passenger and container ships. After taking an early retirement from shipping Peter heard about yachting through a mutual friend and made the decision to have some fun and travel a bit more. With his extensive knowledge and experience as an engineer he was able to join this industry and has been working on luxury yachts for the past 4 years. Second Engineer: Stuart GowensStuart was born in Reading, England and moved to New Zealand aged 12. He started working on boats when he was 16 and worked at HMNZ Dockyard for ten years where he completed his apprenticeship as a fitter and turner. He learned about the yachting industry through an acquaintance and decided to use his engineering experience to work and travel the world. Stuart has been working as a build engineer on Madsummer for the last 2 years through her building phase in Germany. Stuart has a passion for motorsport and has built racing cars for the last seven years. Third Engineer: Daniel SparkDaniel is from Invercargill, New Zealand where he was born and raised. After finishing school Daniel worked as a fisherman on a 100m trawler in Antarctica. Having not spent any time at sea prior to this Dan got over his initial sea sickness and developed a passion for the sea. At 22, Dan was keen to work on a cruise liner and so made his way to America ended up onboard a yacht and has never looked back. Dan has been in the industry for two years and has completed his AEC, yachtmaster 200 ton and has worked his way from a deckhand position to third engineer. In his spare time, Dan loves water sports, in particular kite boarding, and also enjoys snowboarding when he can hit the slopes.
